Dad,
He's kinda annoying, but he's got, like, ADHD or somethin' 'cause it didn't take long for him ta move on ta otheh things. She chilled out an' put the shovel away, so it's all good right now. I think she knows that, but it still pisses her off ta hear people talkin' bad about her Papa.
I wish I'd gotten pictures, she was clinging to him for a while.

((I know it can't all have been Em, but I needed someone with her who knew her well and we didn't have a Washington at the time. But I know Washington and probably some of the others had her at some point too...I just don't know who unless they ask me about it))

Emily,
That's good. Some time to yourself is a good thing. I've been alright, just a little lonely lately. The weather is starting to cool down again over here, probably mostly the lake effect. What is it like on the East coast being right on the ocean?

Dan,
More reason to write, if you're lonely. At least if you're writin' people an' they write back you know you aren't alone, yeah?
Yeah, it got cooleh over here too. Bein' next ta the ocean is nice, keeps me cooleh in th'summeh an' warmeh in th'winteh...to a point. The coastal areas get it more than the inland ones. The one thing about bein' on the ocean, I have to watch out for hurricanes. They usually aren't as bad by th'time they make it to me, but even then it's not fun. I've got a Hurricane Barrier for a reason.
What's it like for you, bein' next ta a lake?

Em,
Definetly. That way I can stay connected, ya know. Also I can feel less alone!
Aye, I would love to be near an ocean, minus the hurricanes like ya said. Well, I have more tornadoes and then you are more likely for hurricanes. The ocean sounds nice. I don't have much of a lake, but the amount I do is great. Lots of fresh water and nice for those crazy hot summers. You know my radical mood swings that cause my temp change every few minutes (as it seems).
I really don't speak to you much, do I? Aye, I was wonderin', how did your state get it's name?
-Dan

Dan,
Yeah, there are more tornadoes out your way. Every so often we get watches for 'em durin' a bad storm, but it's rarer for warnings ta pop up like last year when there were a couple up in Mass fairly close to the border. The ocean is nice, an' it's fun to be out swimming when the tide is coming in. Really, that's what does it? Huh...
Nah, but we're far enough apart an' I've gotten forgotten enough by the states that aren't close by that I'm not that surprised we don' talk much.
The state name? That goes back ta when I was really little... In case ya don't know, the full name of my state is "The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations". There were two colonies, Rhode Island, which was one of the islands in what is now Narragansett Bay, and Providence Plantations, which was where the City of Providence is. The two colonies merged an' combined their names, an' it was kept when it went from bein' a colony to a state. There was actually a vote on it not long ago, t'see if "Providence Plantations" should stay...stupid people in the government thinkin' about Plantations as places in the south where slaves worked instead of as a synonym for colony like it was meant. ...the one thing about bein' forgotten a lot, some people think th'whole state is an island.
So, how'd your state get it's name?

Em,
It all matters on where you are, location, when it comes to weather. Even though tornadoes are more worried about in more southern states than I, tornadoes are still a concern here.
I'd love to take a trip to the ocean sometime soon. I'm taking a sort of world-travel to visit some places, and ultimately spend sometime with a girl that's special to me.
That's pretty interesting. I wonder where names come from usually. And to think I only knew the Rhode Island part. Aye, an island? I mean, I see how some people might forget the names of all the states but to think you were an island...
My state, huh? Well, 'Illinois' is the modern french spelling of a word given to the Algonquin tribes in Illinois, spelt the Illiniwek. The French explorers had gotten to the area and called the tribe Illiniwek, which means 'man' or 'men'.
Names of our places really have a deep backround story, huh?
