(This fanfic is based on an actual 1938 radio broadcast of the War of the Worlds narrated by Orson Welles which was based on the novel by H.G. Wells which caused panic among the American population, thinking that aliens from Mars were invading or even a cover-up to hide a Nazi invasion or both, even though it was all a hoax created by CBS radio and the show Mercury Theatre on the Air just to be festive around Halloween. There is even a monument in Grover's Mill, New Jersey commemorating the broadcasts. Enjoy.)
It Came From Mars~
It was a chilly late October day in 1938, as he drove back home from work. After opening the front door, the young man put the groceries away and started to read the Star Ledger. “Another article about a country getting taken over by the Axis Powers or decided to join the Axis Powers and the League of Nations not giving two craps about it,” Ryan sighed as he mindlessly glanced down at the page. After reading halfway through the article he puts the newspaper down. Ryan was tired of hearing stuff about an upcoming war and he really wanted to just relax, and forget all about what happened today during work. Not too soon after a sneezing and coughing fit, the New Jerseyan turn on the radio. It was a news broadcast. A serious one. One that New Jersey would never forget.
The reporter at the scene started to speak, “Live from Grover’s Mill, New Jersey… Apparently just a few moments ago a cylindrical-shaped meteorite crashed here and now a crowd of people have gathered around it.”
Ryan listened closely to the broadcast as the reporters, the witnesses, and a military officer described the object and how it crashed into his state from the sky. Suddenly…
He hears a panicked scream from the radio speaker! “I don’t believe it! The meteorite has un-screwed itself! And- Ah! It’s so ugly! And… OH MY GOD! The crowd has vaporized into ashes! There are flames everywhere! Oh the humanity! Oh the-!” Those were the last words of the reporter as he burned in the flames according to the radio program.
Ryan Jones was lost for words after hearing it. He wasn’t sure if it was real or a hoax but either way it still freaked him out a little. Ryan had never thought that anyone would want to invade him. Hopefully it was only a hoax. After a while New Jersey started to feel dizzy do to a high fever that he had and… THUMP! He fell onto the living room floor while hitting his head hard against the coffee table and passing out.
