Notes: I don't feel like giving this a standalone place 'cause it's more Detective Conan/ Magic Kaito crossover than Hetalia and it's short, but it's needed for the next to make more sense in my opinion.
Title: Simply Ordinary Crossover: Hetalia/ Detective Conan/ Magic Kaitou Words: 983 Rating: T Summary: When your name is Conan Edogawa the sorts of things that you can become accustomed to are quite unusual, especially when your best friends are Ivan Braginski and his antiques restoration expert (and a former thief) Kaito Kuroba. Warnings: Temporary Nation death, strangeness. Disclaimer: The characters of Detective Conan, Hetalia, and Magic Kaito do not belong to me (even if they’ve taken up temporary residence inside my head)

Ten year old Conan Edogawa, formerly Shinichi Kudo, was currently staying somewhere in the vicinity of Moscow. He had given Ran the slip, arranging a three month long trip to spend some time with his “family” and instead gone to Russia to spend some quality time with a good friend of his. They had met nearly a year ago when Conan was investigating the kidnapping of an acquaintance, and fellow detective, Hakuba Saguru.
The Russian man had been hired by an English man who was a longtime friend of the Half-brit when he became worried over his friend. To this day Hakuba-san still had no idea exactly how important and influential his friend Arthur was - and the personification of England intended to keep it that way.
However, in the course of the investigation Conan and Ivan had become well acquainted with each other, finding indeed that they worked together better than either would have guessed, the Russian somehow seeing straight past the childish façade to the old soul beneath. Eventually that regard had developed into a tentative friendship, a friendship that had become more solid when Shinichi learned something about the world that he would never have guessed. This fact being that the nations had human forms that were immortal, a fact for which, to prove trust, has caused him to reveal his own secret to the man who was, in fact, Russia itself.
This month would be the last month of his stay in Russia before he returned to Japan and over his stay here he had become used to the peculiarities that came with befriending a nation. Especially one such as Russia, and even more so when a certain American kept returning to try and be pals with Russia. And so he was somewhat less than surprised when the site that greeted him when he walked in the door was one of Russia covered in blood.
It wasn't hard to figure out where all the blood had come from, despite the fact that it was obvious at first glance that none of it had come from Ivan. After all, America was lying dead on the normally spotless entryway floor still bleeding from the wounds Russia had inflicted. Russia was calmly cleaning the murder weapons, a knife which had likely been a gift from his younger sister as well as his ever present pipe.
America had obviously been stabbed repeatedly at some point, likely after the initial beating with the pipe, but as usual Alfred didn’t appear to have received the hint and so that led him to the injury that had certainly caused his death this time. Yes, the head wound, the blunt trauma which had killed Alfred was most certainly done with that same pipe that the Russian was diligently cleaning while ignoring the body on the floor.
He sighed looking over at Ivan. "I'm guessing, judging from the fact that he'll wake up from this, that he's going to have one hell of a headache and possibly a concussion."
Conan walked past Ivan over to the, currently, dead blond and, kneeling on the floor, started clearing the blood covered locks away from crushed skull, not even caring as he shifted Nantucket into an area that he knew would be uncomfortable for the blond when he woke.
"So," he continued, absentmindedly beginning to pick the fragments of skull out of the wound so that it wouldn't heal with them in there, "what exactly did he do this time?" He paused in his cleaning to look up at the Russian, knowing he was unlikely to wish to speak right now.
Russia reached up a hand pressing his scarf more securely around his neck.
"He tried to take the scarf off again?” Conan shook his head as he went back to his work, “You would think he would have gotten the hint from last time."
"What are you planning to do when he wakes up?"
"I will show Amerika why you do not mess with Россия-Матушка.” The Russian replied, likely his first words since the fight. “I think the paperweight will be good for that, Da?" The smile on Ivan’s face would probably have scared off lesser men, but Shinichi had long been immune to it.
"Vanya, you need to get more creative. Maybe do some serious damage to Nantucket and Florida or overdose him with vodka. Something new, something that might actually leave an impression on him."
"Maybe I will kill him someway new and you can come and solve the mystery for fun, Da?"
"Sounds like a plan." He checks the clock and checks to see that the head wound will heal well enough by itself. "Well I guess he'll be up and about by noon tomorrow. I'll come back around.... Say five-ish? Dinner and then entertainment I think. I assume you'll keep him down long enough for that."
"Da."
"Good. Then I'll just wait for Kaito to get here. I'm sure his antiques in distress radar has already gone off an-"
"Vanya-dah-ling!" ((Kaito))
"Ah, speak of the Kaitou." ((Conan))
"Privyet, Kaito."
"If you can move the body onto the plastic and drag him into the kitchen I'll get to work on cleaning." Said the grinning master thief, bouncing in excitement at the chance to use his restorations skills.
"Da." Russia doesn't bother to be careful while moving America. It's not like he'll get any deader.
"Well I'll just be going then. I wouldn’t want to get in the way of the Master’s work." ((Conan))
"I'll see ya round chibi-tantei." Kaito waves a hand lazily at him as if to shoo him off.
"You might just want to stay the night Kuroba. Alf's going to be getting a second dose in the morning." ((Conan))
"Then I'll be sure to move the more delicate things away from the carnage. And I'll see you for dinner then." ((Kaito))
"Yes, I'll see you then Kaito." ((Conan))
~~~End~~~
AN: Yeah... Russia, Kaito, and Conan have a very weird relationship. And Kaito's developed a fondness for antiques and other art as well as Gems. Russia pays him well for it too. Translation: Россия-Матушка (Rossiya-Matushka) - Mother Russia ((Notes on who’s speaking at the end just to keep it clear)) The story of what happens at dinner doesn’t exist. This is at least 24 hours before the next chapter of Once in Love.
Chapter 7: Falling
About a month after Heather died and Alfred thought he might finally be starting to cope, the dreams started. Every night he would see her in his dreams, happy, safe, and impossibly alive. Sometimes it was just her, sometimes there were other people around; he could never make out any details. Alfred was pretty sure he was going insane. By May he was ready to do anything to make himself forget for even a little while.
That was when he got the idea to travel to another country for a few months. In the end he decided to travel to Russia, it was the first country that he could think of a reasonable excuse for going to where he wouldn’t end up running into someone he couldn’t handle. So Alfred told the president that he was taking a trip to Russia to try and befriend the other nation and improve their relations. He would have preferred to not have to see the other nation at all while he was away, but there was a chance that his boss would try to check up on things, so he wasn’t going to be able to avoid it.
Unfortunately Russia had company, some kids Alfred had never heard of from Japan, and boy did that grade-schooler have an eerie gaze and focus on murder. It wasn’t long before Alfred’s attempts to be the good natured fool ended up getting on Russia’s nerves and getting him killed. When Alfred realized that when he was “dead” he didn’t have to dream or think things went downhill, he ended up coming back nearly every day finding the best way to push the Russian until he would attack him again.
It left Ivan with little choice but to explain to his company that the guy who kept showing up was another nation and that he would survive, which in turn made things worse for Alfred. Every time he woke up to see them looking at him he was reminded of how badly things turned out for the last mortal to learn he was a nation.
~~~
Ivan could not understand why Amerika was behaving as he was. The other nation had gone from being a civil adult that Ivan could respect, as he had become in the last few years, to acting like a child again. Amerika had gone back to constantly playing the fool and pushing Ivan, fighting with him and pulling stunts that he knew would push Ivan past the end of his tolerance. Ever since he found out for certain that Ivan had told his acquaintance that this man was Amerika, he had been pushing Ivan so far that he spent more time dead than alive.
It was enough to make even Ivan concerned over the mental state of his biggest rival. A broken Amerika would do him no good even if he became one with Russia. He also had to wonder why Kanada had not contacted his brother; certainly he should have become concerned when Amerika did not return home when he said he would.
That was why Ivan found himself rummaging through the other nation’s pockets after this most recent kill for his cell phone. As he started flipping through the phone’s records he found no fewer than ten missed calls from Kanada, with a text sent to Kanada insisting that Amerika was fine and that he had just extended his “vacation” in order to spend more time visiting the sites of Russia. Ivan decided it was time to take measures of his own to end this phase that Amerika seemed to be going through. He took his own phone out of his pocket and dialed the number listed in Amerika’s phone for Kanada.
“Hello?”
“Privet, Komrad Kanada. This is Rossiya.”
“Russia? I didn’t know you had my number.”
“Da, until now I did not have it, but it was in Amerika’s phone.”
“Alfred? He’s still at your place? I thought he had gone to go check out Russian culture, eh.”
“Nyet, Amerika has been here.”
“I thought it was strange that he wasn’t returning my calls.”
“Amerika has been acting quite strange recently, da? I have killed him many times, and still he keeps returning to do the same again.”
“What!? Alfred you little idiot! This isn’t the way to deal with these sorts of things!”
Ivan wondered exactly what sort of things Amerika was supposed to be dealing with that this was the way he chose to handle it.
“Look Russia, I’m very sorry about my brother. He’s just going through a difficult time right now; I hope he hasn’t offended you too badly. I’ll be there to pick him up as soon as possible. Once he can be trusted to act rationally I’m sure he’ll apologize for the trouble. Just-” there was a pause for a moment from the other end of the line. “Just make sure he doesn’t go anywhere before I get there, eh. He’s not thinking clearly right now.”
“Da, I can make sure Amerika will not go anywhere. Do svidaniya, Kanada.”
“Bye, Russia.”
Ivan made sure to save the number in his phone, it could become useful someday.
~~~
Alfred groaned as he regained consciousness, wishing more than ever to return back to the land of the dead where nothing hurt and there were no nightmares. He had come back to the land of the living just in time to catch the Russian’s last words before he hung up his cell phone.
“So you called Matty.”
“Da, it seems that Komrad Kanada has been quite concerned about you Amerika.”
“He doesn’t need to worry I can take care of myself.”
“Kanada is not the only one who has noticed you acting unlike yourself, Amerika.”
“I’ll be fine. I can handle this by myself; it’s none of your concern.”
“Nyet. If something is bothering Amerika it is reason for all nations to be concerned. When Amerika has a problem it usually spreads to the rest sooner or later, da?”
“Well then you should be happy to know that this problem has nothing to do with ‘Amerika’. It’s only about the fuckup Alfred Jones.” He snapped back angrily. “America could have been the hero and kept her safe it’s Alfred who fucked up and let her down and now she’s dead.”
“Who is dead?”
“The only mortal in the world who could love Alfred Jones and America. And it’s because of me that she’s dead. I as good as killed her myself. Now if you’ll excuse me I have to get out of here before my brother shows up.”
“Amerika. I promised Komrad Kanada that you would not leave before he arrived.”
“Well you aren’t going to stop me from leaving.” Alfred stormed towards the door.
Russia grabbed his arm. “Amerika, I would suggest you not make this harder than it has to be.” Russia smiled coldly, but Alfred just shrugged him off.
The last thing he felt before things went black was the now familiar sensation of Russia’s faucet pipe hitting the back of his skull.
~~~
Ivan sighed as he put his pipe back in his pocket after giving a, comparatively, gentle whack to the stubborn Amerika’s head sending him back to the realm of unconsciousness. It would not do to break his promise to Kanada, after all if Kanada was to become one with Rossiya he would have to be able to trust that Rossiya would keep his word. Just to be safe he went to the medicine closet and pulled out a syringe, delivering a powerful dose of medication that would ensure that Amerika would not wake for at least a couple of hours.
Amerika was acting strangely and this could have consequences for all the nations should he not recover. Before he allowed the two of them to leave Kanada was going to have to answer some questions for Rossiya.

Chapter 8: Sharing
“Eh, Hello? Russia?” Matthew knocked hesitantly at the door. Russia probably wasn’t in a good mood because of Alfred so Matthew was trying to be cautious.
“Ah. Privet, Kanada.” Russia opened the door greeting Matthew with what he supposed was meant to be a welcoming smile. It sent chills down the Canadian’s spine.
“H-Hello Russia. I guess I’ll just pick up Al and take him home then, eh?” He shifted nervously from foot to foot, hoping the Russian would just allow him to collect his brother and leave.
“Nyet. I have some questions Kanada and you will answer them, da?”
“O-ok, but Alfred-” Curse his politeness. He couldn’t refuse Russia’s request, but he was really worried about Alfred. What if he tried to run away?
“Is asleep and shall remain so for another hour or two. Come, we shall talk in my office.”
Russia placed one large hand on Matthew’s shoulder and guided him into the house, shutting the door firmly. Once inside he walked away obviously confident that Matthew would keep his word, which he did. The Canadian trailing silently behind him as he led the way to his office. When they arrived Russia sat behind his desk and gestured for Matthew to take the seat in front of him on the other side. Suitably intimidated, Matthew hesitantly took the indicated seat.
“S-so you had some questions, eh?” Matthew started.
“Something bad has happened to Amerika, da?” Russia pinned him with a serious stare.
“Y-yeah. I guess, but it’s not his country, it’s just Al. This shouldn’t cause any trouble for anyone else.”
“Nyet. This has caused great trouble to myself and my, guests. Should Amerika remain this way at the next world meeting and I am forced to kill him again, I believe you will find that this will cause much trouble for the other nations. So you will tell me, what has happened to Amerika?”
“I-I can’t tell you, I promised Al that I wouldn’t tell anyone.”
There was a calculating glance from Russia before he spoke carefully. “Before I had to subdue him Amerika said some things.”
Matthew paled wondering if his brother would be so foolish as to say things that Russia could use to blackmail him.
“A female mortal is dead and it appears to have caused him great distress.” Russia continued, seemingly oblivious to Matthew’s reaction. “He seems to be of the belief that he is responsible for what happened. Should things remain as they are, I believe that Amerika and I will soon have many more things in common.”
“O-oh God…” Matthew looked like he was going to be sick.
“Is something wrong Kanada?” Russia was smiling innocently, which was really creeping Matthew out. It was obvious that he knew what he had been implying and why Matthew would react that way.
“I-I didn’t know it was so bad. Be-before he left Al seemed to be handling things really well.” Matthew looked down at his hands in his lap, wishing that he had brought Kumakichi with him to hold, even if the little bear would have been irritated with his nap being interrupted.
“So you will tell me what happened, da, Komrad Matfyeya?”
“I-I guess you’ll have to learn some of this eventually.” Matthew replied, still looking at his hands. He missed the Russian’s smile.
~~~
Ivan smiled. It was so funny how Kanada reacted to using his human name. It made Ivan smile to see how easily it made Kanada let down his guard; it was almost as fun as teasing his hair during the meetings and then leaving him that way. These thoughts always made him pleasure smile.
“Alfred, Alfred was in love. With a mortal woman, for years and years. Alfred told her what he was and she stayed with him. She even moved in with him a couple years ago, and he was really, really happy. More than he’d been in decades. He even started to grow up a little, which I think everyone noticed, eh?”
He nodded and Kanada continued.
“But a couple of months ago the some of the Secret Service agents that are dedicated to the protection of the secret came to the house. They didn’t have any evidence that she knew, as far as I’ve been able to figure out they didn’t think she knew at all, but they don’t like Alfred and he was happy. So they let it slip and then did what they always do to clean up a mess. They killed her.”
Ivan was surprised to hear that the people who were meant to protect Amerika were as cruel as the ones that surrounded himself.
“After that he wasn’t doing well for a while, he had some nightmares, but he really seemed like he was getting better. It’s why his boss approved this trip at all, eh? I was just happy that he didn’t seem to be trying to get to Italy.”
“Italy?” Kanada was so far into telling the story that he needed little prompting to go down the path that Ivan wanted to know more about.
“Yeah, Feliciano and Ludwig took the body out of the country to keep it from being burned. Feliciano said that he would take her to a safe place, but that Al wouldn’t be able to see her. We thought that if he was traveling here for work it meant that things were starting to get back to normal.” Kanada put his face into his hands. “It looks like we’ve all failed him.”
If Russia wasn’t mistaken the Canadian was crying. He hummed.
“Haaaah, Well that is an interesting tale Kanada. You can take Amerika home now. Perhaps I shall invite you both over for a few weeks and we can see how much Amerika and I have in common then. Kolkolkolkol.”
~~~
Matthew shivered and snapped out of the almost trance he had settled into while speaking, quickly becoming horrified with how much he revealed. He paled and looked at Russia, hastily brushing the tears from his face. He opened his mouth to speak, what he was going to say he wasn’t even sure.
“Don’t worry Kanada, I will not tell, so long as you and Amerika promise to come visit me when I ask, da?”
Matthew nodded.
“Come, I will lead you to Amerika.”
And with that Matthew silently followed Russia to a guest room where his brother lay unconscious. He lifted his brother from the bed, cradling Alfred in his arms, in a rare display of his own superhuman strength.
“Thank you for keeping him here until I could get him.”
“It was my pleasure.” Russia replied, his smile again sending chills down Matthew’s spine.
It was another long, silent walk back to the door.
“I will see you and Amerika back here in a few months then, da?”
“Y-yeah.”
In the end Alfred didn’t wake up until they were at his home. Russia must have given him a stronger dosage than he thought.

Words: 888 Rating: T Notes: Hali. Her Full name is Leilani "Hali" Kekepania-Jones. Leilani Kekepania means approximately “Heavenly-Flowers Crown” and she was the Hawaiian Nation before becoming a state. Hali is apparently Greek for Sea. She has a short story, but we’re not getting into that here. She's 5'5" and appears to be 21. Disclaimer: I do not own the characters from Hetalia ~~~~
Chapter 9: Saving
When Alfred awoke he was home again and his brother and his states were there waiting for him. Especially one state who was very, very upset with him. Matty was happy to take a back seat and let the former nation have the pleasure of lecturing Alfred.
(Well that and Hali glared at him too when he tried to speak. Alfred suspected that she was going to have words with Matty as well later. For a moment he almost laughed as he realized how much of a mother hen Hali was.)
“Alfred you idiot! You stupid, thoughtless, foolish, immature AMERICA!” She slammed her hands down hard onto the night table, cracking the solid oak. “Do you know how worried I was when your brother called me to tell me that you have been provoking RUSSIA of all people?!”
Alfred winced, her tone making it clear that he wasn’t going to get out of this without listening to what she had to say.
“Did you even think of the consequences that could have? NO. Of course you didn’t, because if you were THINKING you would have called your brother or I and actually been TALKING to someone about what you’ve been going through.
“And then when I get here I find out you’ve been hiding things from me for nine years! Alfred Jones you know that the continentals don’t get a chance to come out to Hawaii often to fill me in on what is going on in your life and so you lied to me and you hid things every time I came to visit you! I find out from your brother that you were married, married, and you didn’t even let me meet the young lady!
“We have been good friends for around fifty years now and you didn’t think you could trust me to keep your secret? Did you forget exactly how I still exist Alfred?”
“If you ever do anything this foolish again I’m not sure what I’m going to do to you but you are not going to like it.”
Each point that Hali made hit him with a near physical force. She was right; he should have known that he could trust his confidant with anything after what had happened when she became a state. And after Heather died, if anyone would understand what it was like to feel like you had failed someone who mattered, it would be Leilani. Alfred looked down, ashamed to realize how he had been acting towards his state, as well as one of his best advisors and friends, recently.
Hali, Leilani, had rather thoroughly made her point and scolded him, he was sure she would be mad at him for a long time. Alfred was therefore startled as she suddenly pulled him into a hug.
“Now we are going to sit here and you are going to tell me everything young man. Once we’re done with that I’m going to speak to your brother,” she pinned Matty with a glare as he tried to sneak out of the room, “and then we’re going to call Russia so that you can apologize for bothering him and do what you can to fix the trouble you’ve caused.”
~
Several hours later, after the abbreviated version of everything that had happened in the last nine years from Alfred and a firm talk with Matthew about calling her when something happened and he wasn’t sure that Alfred had – or would, they finally were able to give Russia a call.
Alfred apologized for having been an ass and abusing Russia’s hospitality and Russia and Matthew informed Alfred that he and Matthew would be traveling back to Russia in a couple of months to make amends. He tried to back out of it, but Russia insisted and Hali backed him up with a glare that dared Alfred to not face up to what he had done. Alfred still complained about it, but Matthew made it clear that they would be going, even if he had to borrow some of that sedative from Russia to get Alfred there.
Really Matty could be pretty scary when he put his mind to it.
When Hali left to return to her house that night, it was with instructions for Alfred to call her every day to check in and at least once a week for a long talk.
~~~
Alfred wasn’t entirely sure, but he believed that Hali asked Alexis ((Alaska)) to make sure that happened, who promptly made a deal with Tex ((Texas)). She would back off on the Russian for a few months, if he helped keep dad in line. Which essentially made making sure their Father behaved Tex’s mission in life for the next three months.
He wondered for a bit why Alexis would be so eager to help, before he remembered that an unhappy Russia was a Russia looking for more Vodka. This meant that Russia had probably been spending time in Alaska looking for Vodka. Which Alexis would have had to provide, while keeping out of view so that Russia didn’t try to take back her lands on the discovery of what appeared to be a mini-fem-Russia. The end result being that Alexis was probably a bit cranky because she had to keep leaving trails of sunflower labeled Vodka bottles around the Alaskan wilderness.
((But that's another story...))
Words: 446 Notes: This is the last chapter I have finished. I’m still having some trouble with the next chapter. It's a little bit of filler to cover from Alfred's perspective an event that happens in another DC/MK crossover that happens in the months between some of the other events. That crossover is a little longer and I need to finish the last chapter on it… Main trouble being needing to work on letters during various points in history from Al to Iggy. (And I need to post the other DC/MK crossover between England & Hakuba with that one too...) Disclaimer: I do not own the characters from Hetalia ~~~~
Chapter 10: Healing
By July Alfred was living in one of his old houses in Virginia and he was nearly back to his normal self. Not to say that Hali wasn’t still having him check in with her once a week to have one of their talks, but he was well enough to have company. And that was why he volunteered to let a friend of Iggy’s stay at his house for a couple months.
The boy was some hotshot teen detective and he had been called to America to work on a case that had the local authorities stumped. Iggy said that the kid had secured himself a hotel room for the first month, but after that -for some reason or another- things in the area would be booked solid. It wasn’t far from the area where Alfred was living in Virginia so he said that if the case took longer than that that the kid would be welcome to stay in his guestroom until it was over. A fact which he nearly regretted after meeting Saguru.
The boy was too restrained in Alfred’s opinion and had no appreciation for videogames. Overall Alfred thought he was far too focused on school and working and didn’t relax enough. However the two did end up forming a sort of friendship about a week after Saguru arrived. That was when Alfred was introduced to Saguru’s hawk Watson, which was pretty cool. Alfred actually found that the kid wasn’t too hard to spend time with when they were out with Watson and he even finally convinced the kid to take a break and do something fun one day.
They actually managed to talk and find some things in common, although when Arthur came up Alfred was rather quick to change the subject. Had he known Saguru a little better, he would have known that was going to make him ask questions. It ended up causing problems just as Saguru was going to be leaving when Alfred finally gave in and asked how Arthur had been doing.
It was a turning point where Alfred could no longer justify following the command he had been given at his independence; the mandate that he was no longer to consider England anything more than an ally at any time. Even after he had already subverted the government’s desires in many ways to be himself and not “America”, he had still allowed himself to believe that this one thing was hopeless to be changed.
However, with help from Saguru Alfred managed to deliver the letters he had been writing since the revolutionary war to Arthur. The ability to finally start repairing his relationship with Arthur helped to heal one of the jagged wounds on Alfred’s heart, even if there was still another that remained.
All in all however, things were starting to at least get back to some semblance of normal, and if not truly happy, Alfred was at least content. It was enough to frighten him. Things never seemed to stay this nice for long.
